Frequently asked questions

Is Keeper a dating app?

Keeper is best described as an AI-assisted matchmaking service, not a typical dating app. Our mission is to help you find love, marry, and start a family — not to encourage endless dating. If you’re looking to “play the field” or find casual relationships, Keeper is not a good fit for you. But if you want serious introductions to vetted matches who share your long-term goals, we’re here to serve you.

We currently offer a web app where you can sign up, answer questions, receive matches, and stay in touch throughout your matchmaking journey. Although most of the process is automated, our team of expert matchmakers still reviews matches behind the scenes to ensure the highest quality introductions. You can also pause matchmaking or manage your personal information at any time within the app.

How long does it take to be matched on Keeper?

Timelines vary based on your preferences and other compatibility factors. Rather than delivering a fixed number of matches by a deadline, we focus on connecting you with the right person — someone who meets your criteria and is equally interested in you. It’s about quality over quantity.

Our onboarding and information-gathering phase can take up to a couple of hours. After that, it often takes a few months to match you with a long-term partner. Our pace is slower than most dating apps because we’re more detail-focused and deliberate.

Where is Keeper available?

Keeper is currently active mainly in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. You can sign up from anywhere, but our network outside those regions is still limited.

Can I take a break without cancelling entirely?

Absolutely. You can pause your matchmaking at any time. Simply log in to set your profile on hold, and when you’re ready to resume, we’ll pick up where we left off. There’s no penalty for pausing.

Does Keeper have an age requirement?

You must be at least 18 years old to join Keeper. Our platform is tailored toward adults seeking marriage. If you’re over 18 and meet our basic criteria, you’re welcome to sign up.

What languages does Keeper support?

Right now, Keeper is only available in English.

What kinds of traits can you set as preferences on Keeper?

Anything that matters to you. If it’s important, we want to know about it.

Will Keeper pair me with my spouse on the first try?

It’s possible. About one in ten Keeper first dates lead to marriage, compared to one in ten thousand on the most effective dating apps.

Your success largely depends on how much detail you provide about your preferences and personal background. The more you share, the better we can tailor your match.

Does Keeper match me only with people who meet all my preferences?

Yes, within a small margin of flexibility. Unlike other matchmakers, we don't make matches just to fill a quota. We only introduce you to someone when they meet your standards — and you meet theirs.

Before an introduction, we carefully vet both of you to ensure you meet each other’s preferences. If there’s any flexibility, we’ll discuss it with each of you to see whether you’re still a good fit. Our goal is to find the right match — not to force it.

What makes Keeper different from other matchmakers?

A few key things:

  1. Our incentives align with your success. While other matchmakers often charge large upfront or annual fees, Keeper’s main profit comes from you actually finding the relationship you want.
  2. No fuzzy matches. Some matchmakers make mediocre introductions just to fill a quota. We only introduce you to someone if they meet your standards — and you meet theirs. Because our success depends on truly good matches, we’re motivated to focus on quality over quantity.
  3. Deep psychometric insights. We look at IQ, personality type, masculine/feminine polarity, and other predictive traits. Rather than relying on hunches, we use comprehensive data to give you your best shot at finding the perfect partner.
  4. Self-improvement support. We gather real feedback from people who meet your preferences, then use it to guide actionable improvements — from refining your profile and photos to offering suggestions on fitness, style, or grooming. This iterative process ensures you’re always putting your best foot forward and continuously improving your odds of success.
How does Keeper handle location-based matches?

By default, we prioritize matching you with someone in — or open to — your geographic region, particularly if you’ve indicated a strong preference for nearby connections. That said, a majority of people on Keeper are open to long-distance or relocating for the right partner. If both parties express willingness to explore a non-local match, we’ll gladly facilitate that introduction.

How does pricing work on Keeper?

Keeper has two plan options: Free and Marriage Bounty.

Free: As a free member, you’re eligible to be matched with paying members only. Your match is guaranteed to meet your preferences, and you don’t pay anything. While matching may take longer for free members, we encourage you to join, as we aim to match everyone eventually.

Marriage Bounty: Keeper’s Marriage Bounty plan greatly increases your chances of success by allowing you to match with both paid and free members. You pay a fee for each match — giving you some skin in the game — but only after both sides review each other’s detailed profiles, see why it’s an ideal match, and agree you’re interested in meeting.

Once you reach a key relationship milestone, you then pay a one-time success fee. Any per-match fees you’ve already paid are deducted from this final amount, so you never pay more than your total bounty. Each new match fee is 20% lower than the previous one — eventually reaching zero once half your bounty has been deducted. This structure keeps everyone’s incentives aligned because our lifetime revenue from you is capped, motivating us to match you as quickly and effectively as possible.

Pricing for the Marriage Bounty plan varies based on individual needs and circumstances.

Do I have to pay up-front for the Marriage Bounty?

No. There’s no sign-up fee for our Marriage Bounty plan. Instead, you pay a small fee for each match, plus a one-time success fee if you reach a key relationship milestone — whichever milestone comes first. Any per-match fees already paid count toward this final success fee, ensuring you don’t pay more than your total bounty. This way, our success depends on yours, and our incentives remain aligned with your goals.

On the Marriage Bounty, do I only pay when I get married?

Not necessarily. Our Marriage Bounty agreement includes a few milestones that we consider on par with marriage or strong indicators that the relationship is headed that way. You pay once your relationship meets one of these milestones:

  • You marry in a civil or religious ceremony.
  • You and your match have a child together.
  • You or your match legally adopt one another’s child.
  • You live together at the same legal address for a year or more.
  • You are still together 18 months after Keeper made the introduction.
How many people are in Keeper’s database?

Keeper has over 275,000 active members.

What does the AI part of Keeper do?

Our matchmakers use advanced algorithms, including AI language and vision models, to help vet candidates and create accurate matches more efficiently. The AI reads, understands, and analyzes the information you provide in your words, interpreting your preferences and criteria. It also evaluates photos to ensure appearance criteria are met.

As the AI’s capabilities improve, we plan to make Keeper increasingly affordable through automation, ultimately offering high-quality matchmaking to everyone on earth.

How do you ensure everyone on Keeper is looking for something serious?

Most people won’t complete an in-depth form about their personal values and preferences for a spouse unless they’re genuinely seeking a serious relationship. After all, there are plenty of faster, easier, and cheaper ways to date casually. When we make a match, we also ask additional questions and gather more information to ensure a strong, lasting fit. On the rare occasion that someone joins with short-term intentions, we can quickly identify and remove them based on their responses and behavior.

Do I have to sign up for a subscription or a long-term contract to use Keeper?

No. Keeper’s services are ad hoc, with no required subscription or long-term commitment. You can cancel at any time.

How new is Keeper?

Keeper was founded in May 2022. We’re a venture-backed startup with investments from Champion Hill Ventures, Lightbank, Lakehouse Ventures, and others.

What is Keeper's success rate?

Since our launch three years ago, about 1 in 10 first dates from Keeper have led to long-term relationships — compared to 1 in 1,000 on the most effective dating apps. Women on Keeper accept 53% of their offered matches (versus 4% on leading apps), and men accept 65% (versus 35%). Of those matches, 37% go on to an actual first date — far higher than the 1.7% typical of mainstream apps.

Is Keeper affiliated with a particular political philosophy or party?

No. While we hold to our mission and values as a guiding philosophy, we’re not aligned with any political party or ideology beyond that scope. As a company, we don’t engage in issues outside our core purpose, though our founders and employees hold and express a diverse range of personal beliefs. Keeper proudly serves clients from all backgrounds, beliefs, and values — provided they’re genuinely seeking a serious, long-term relationship.

How is the experience different for men and women on Keeper?

In our matching process, women see a potential match’s profile first. If she’s interested, we then show her profile to the man; if she’s not, he doesn’t see her profile at all. This approach respects women’s preferences and lets men receive unfiltered, anonymous feedback when a woman passes.

Our algorithm also references population-level research on gender differences from behavioral and evolutionary psychology. For example, men on average put more weight on physical attractiveness, while women more often prioritize resource potential — alongside several other well-documented patterns. Whenever your own stated preferences diverge from these patterns, your personal criteria override our default assumptions.

How long does it take to get a match on Keeper?

The waiting is the hardest part. We can’t predict an exact timeline because everyone’s preferences are unique. Most paying members match within a few weeks to a few months, thanks to prioritization. Free members sometimes wait longer, though many find matches sooner than expected. If it takes a bit of time, it’s because we focus on finding someone who truly fits you. Updating your profile details and staying active can also speed things up. Ultimately, we value quality over speed — so when you do get your match, it’s worth the wait.

What type of information does Keeper share with my match?

Most of the information we collect is used privately to ensure match quality. We craft member profiles with only the details appropriate for a first date, and you can trust we won’t overshare on your behalf.

As you complete our questionnaires, each question clarifies how it may be used. Some basics — like your first name and education — are shared by default. Otherwise, we only share details we believe will enhance the connection, never anything inappropriate or detrimental.

Does Keeper use ChatGPT?

Keeper’s proprietary algorithm combines custom AI models with select third-party models, including OpenAI’s GPT API. We guide these AI components with relationship science and evolutionary psychology to create matches optimized for both short-term attraction and long-term compatibility.

You ask a lot of personal questions. What does Keeper do with my data?

We take your privacy and data security very seriously. We never sell your data or share it with anyone outside of your match. For men, relevant profile details are shared with women we believe you’ll be an excellent match for. For women, we only share your details with men you explicitly express interest in. Contact information is exchanged only after both parties agree to the match, and your specific preferences always remain strictly confidential.

Maintaining your confidentiality and discretion is our highest priority. For more information, please see our Privacy Policy.

Does Keeper have an app?

Yes, Keeper offers a web app accessible via your browser. You can sign up, answer questions, receive matches, and stay in touch — all in one place. While most of the matchmaking process is automated, our team of expert matchmakers still reviews potential matches behind the scenes to ensure quality introductions. You can also pause matchmaking or update your information at any time within the app.
